Description

(Disclaimer: Zikomo Online is a fake MMORPG. It is not real, I am one person with no programmers, 3D artists and no programming or 3D art skill myself. It's just something I make up for fun. Consider it me playing Pretend. You're welcome to join in on it, just appreciate the art but if you think playing pretend is only for babies you might as well leave now.)

So Zikomo's Art style is now changed. I definitely like it more, it's a lot easier to work with and create the animals based on shapes and colors as they should be. These are all eight of the Starter Animals, aka animals you would not have to unlock, that you'd have as soon as you were to sign up and login for the first time. They are as followed:

The Katanga Lion: One of the easiest ways for new players to stand a chance against those who already know what's going on is to play the Katanga Lion. It is durable, with its high strength and defense and while it's speed isn't the quickest, it's sprint skill can actually be quite impressive, making it (very) temporarily capable of outrunning an African Wild Dog. It allows new players to throw their weight around even before they have a handle on everything and for more experienced players to rule and conquer with. This is the Katanga Lion however, so it is not the subspecies that bares leucism (white) in lions.

The Spotted Hyena: While the lion can be diverse and great for new players, there is nothing quite as adapable as the Spotted Hyena. It's one of few species that can learn to eat bones and carrion so old it'd make a lion vomit. It's stats are well-rounded enough, with it's best stat in endurance, the stat that allows an animal to sniff, sprint and use much more than the average attack. They also allow for much more social benefits while not being fragile without companionship. Spotted Hyenas are also one of the only species where sexual dimorphism means the female is the bigger, badder of the two sexes. For balance sake, it means that male hyenas can learn to call upon an NPC companion to help them out when needed. Hyenas are adaptable and, for new players, extremely forgiving.

The African Leopard: The African Leopard is, like the Spotted Hyena, well-rounded but unlike its fellow spotty carnivore, the Leopard draws strength when it is alone opposed to when hanging out with others. It's small size may mean it can't be a brute like the lion, but it does mean this hunter can drop into the grass and sneak up on the same prey a lion would while going completely unnoticed. Its normal speed gives it more agility than the lion but the Leopard's sprint is absolutely lacking. Leopards will need to close the gap between them and their prey opposed to sprinting at it. However if things do go wrong, Leopards are able to go up a tree, even with large prey in tow, in order to get away from their competitors. Leopards can become one of the least picky eaters meat-wise, munching on little mice and beetles that other carnivores would consider too small. Leopards are perfect for the soloist or those who always want an escape plan AND a meal.

The African Wild Dog: One of the quickest and most social animals possible to play as. The African Wild Dog, or Painted Dog, makes hunting very easy. Well, easy when you have friends. Together Wild Dogs can completely immobilize a target to allow for other companion of theirs to go in for the kill. High endurance allows for them to make a plan, mess up and quickly change to new needs to succeed without having to stop and wait for recharge. Their quick speed, even without ever using sprint, means that they can run at many species of prey with little to no sneaking. However when going alone, this animal is unforgivingly fragile. But at least they can run away easily!

The Cape Buffalo: The Prey "Counterpart" to the Katanga Lion. This is a beastly big animal with high defense and strength (even outdoing the lion!) that it can throw around and survive with without a new player knowing whats happening. It is a much slower animal than the lion in the long run of things but then again, in a one-on-one battle, the Buffalo will more than likely prevail. Its strengths mean it can go alone or overwhelm its enemies by mobbing them. Whatever floats your boat.

The Plains Zebra: A fairly well-rounded herbivore with a bit of a kick to it. It's colors will mean it sticks out the most among the natural golds and greens of the wild but its great Defense means a player has time to compose themselves should they be ambushed and their high endurance means they can bite back with surprising skills like bucking a leopard right in the face! The Zebra is an animal great for having friends with, in groups they can mob and confuse enemies but alone they still be more trouble than their worth. Zebras are one of few prey animals that do not have to fear the dark shadows of the night as these striped equines may have night vision.

The Springbok: The Springbok is matched in quickness with another starting prey animal, the Blue Wildebeest, but by far is more nimble than than any other starter species. The Springbok graceful jumps mean it'll leap out of the way of an attack and while it quickly hops away it will leave predators having quite the hard time targeting the little buggers. It's defense and strength however are painfully low and mean that once backed into a corner, even a little predator could bring the hurt on this antelope! Still, when you've got high thirst and hunger stats like the Springbok does, it means you can bound on endlessly without having to stop (or drop dead, starved to death) like many other animals would and even means you can travel into the more barren environments. Such as the desert. The Springbok is great for those who want to go it alone and leave the much slower prey animals to be eaten (you jerk).

The Blue Wildebeest: Despite its clumsy appearance, the Wildebeest is surprisingly quick on its hooves and if its spots trouble trying to sneak up on it, it can be gone in a flash! It has good enough strength and defense to take a beating while it looks for an escape but ultimately this animal will excel in the longrun...by running away that is. The Blue Wildebeest is however a greatly social animal, much like the Wild Dog or Spotted Hyena are, and does amazingly well when surrounded by its friends. It'll draw strength in groups, mob and trample its enemies. Even without mobbing others, the Wildebeest is a greatly useful species when it follows its nose! The Wildebeest can sniff out trouble and even track down water! The Wildebeest is great for (alone or with friends) newbies that fear losing their way from water or food.

There! Wew... I do intend on adding other Lion Subspecies to Zikomo but I still have to research them more to know all the subtle differences. Ones on my list however are the West African Lion and the Transvaal Lion. As is the likelihood of adding the Black Wildebeest and other Zebras. So if you know good sites for researching subspecies (in particular lions, they're the one I'm most interested in adding more of) then I'd love to know about them c:
