Seeing wolves everywhere pains me so very much. Why? Because it's absolutely amazing that canines, the most anatomically diverse animal-family on the planet, have a completely monotonous art community.
Not that I often draw floppy dogs but then again, I have a rather bitter hatred towards drawing canines that grows larger and larger with every passing day.

But enough about how awful a person I am.. I know this tutorial isn't much but hopefully it'll help out at least a little xD;

I've always had difficulty drawing floppy ears, hence why I can never draw my dog Mollie. I've always wanted to, and I can get a good bit of her but the ears always come out horrible. Thanks for posting this ^^

Congrat! Your #5 Sketch looks exactly like my beagle husky mix! I actually find the fact that you went from wolf to domestic and ended up with him quite funny... Any plans or thoughts on covering boxy snoute/large dome head dogs like rottweilers?

:giggle: beagle husky? sounds adorable!

For boxy heads like rotties, pitbulls and english labs I'd say the best way to get on the right road is not starting with a circle guideline for the head, start with a square/cube shape from the get-go. For me it always helps with getting that big-head & snout.
If you have issues grasping the length and width of a rottie-type snout then I'd say draw guidelines for a "normal"/wolf length and then draw over it to cut down its length and make it bigger.
To accent the size of the muzzle, on breeds like that I tend to make the nose smaller than I might usually make it (not by a lot, just a little), as it helps accent the width. Also be wary of the size of the eyes, in comparison to the head, rotties (+ pitties, among other breeds) their eyes will be rather small.
You may also find it helpful to look up rottie skulls and compare them with wolf (or whatever animal you're more comfortable with) so you can figure out not only where the differences lie but also how much of the rottie is bone and how much is floppy lips and muscle (which at least for me always helps with expressions and shaping the face)

Hopefully that helps @w@ I don't have any plans on making another visual tutorial like this droopy lips/ears anytime soon. They take a lot of time and unfortunately I need to spend my time getting grocery money.

You know, I totally understand need for commissions and funds. Sadly mlp ruined me for a year. It is taking a LOT of effort to change that. I'm getting back in the swing of things. I know what you mean by small eyes. I have a rottie that is a walking character on her own. She actually has a heart on her butt. Problem is getting her to hold still long enough to look at her ^.^

Thanks for the tutorial! I have trouble with droopy lips, and I really like drawing floppy and pointy ears. I have a Chow/labrador mix with floppy ears.
